John Kaloustian has consulted to a wide variety of companies, designing many types of products that have won design awards and brought the success of sales to his clients. Having a diverse knowledge of manufacturing and a drive for innovation has allowed him to establish a range of clients and years of reoccurring projects within each of them. His designs have been featured in design and interior architecture publications and specified in noteworthy interiors internationally.

John has traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, the South Pacific and the former Soviet Union broadening his appreciation for art, architecture design and diversity. He also enjoys photography, historic architectural preservation, and collecting mid-century modern furniture.

Professional Experience

John earned his BFA degree from the College for Creative Studies in 1979. It was during college that his professional experience began with designing corporate aircraft interiors for Rockwell International. After graduating he began as a member of the Steelcase design staff. Just over a year later he established his independent design consulting practice, where he has designed contract furnishings, including seating and systems lines for companies such as, Bernhardt Design, Coalesse, Harter, Haworth, Herman Miller, KI, and Steelcase.

The products that he has designed have won design awards, obtained design and utility patents and brought the success of sales to his clients. His designs have been featured in design and interior architecture publications along with being specified in noteworthy interiors internationally.

John has also been an Adjunct Professor at the College for Creative Studies since 1984, where he has collectively taught for more than 20 years.

Significant Publications, Presentations and Exhibitions

His ability to provide diverse design solutions goes beyond the furniture industry to encompass various electronic components for companies such as EDS, Fanuc Robotics, and Pentax Cameras. He has also designed bike accessories, automotive related products, exhibits, eyewear, medical equipment and numerous consumer goods.
